White is the new black.

In the design world, trends come and go like mama's homemade pies, but one trend we are seeing ride the waves is WHITE. White walls, white marble and tile accents, white cabinets, counter tops, linens, furniture... you name it! Using white on white can be done, and done right, when paired with these couple of tips:

1. Soft white or true white? Decide what look you’re wanting to achieve when choosing white for a space. Although mixing whites is absolutely acceptable, it's good to have a plan in mind to accomplish the look you want.

2. How much light does the space offer? The more light (natural and artificial) in the room, the brighter the white will feel. This will help you determine which tint/shade of white you will want to use. The one thing you can count on when using white in a space is visually, that space will grow exponentially. This technique allows you to work with big and small areas without leaving the room feeling cramped or cluttered.

3. Is there such a thing as too much white? NO! Depending on your style, doing an all-white room can be elegant and classic. Pops of color can be added to liven up a space or add personality and still leave the room feeling open and clean. Use bright bold colors to achieve a more fun and vibrant feel or use warm neutral colors to leave the space feeling tranquil and natural. The beautiful thing about white is that it goes with just about anything, so your options are only limited by what your mind can create.

4. Don't be afraid to try something new! Paint is one of the staples we strongly encourage our clients to have fun with. You can always add another coat, change it up, or even add to it should you decided you've missed the mark.

Fun facts about WHITE:

  • More shades of white are available commercially than any other color.

  • Subliminally, white encourages us to clear clutter or obstacles (because we all know we have enough of that!)

The color white projects purity, cleanliness, and neutrality.
